GOLD SALVAGED.
LONDON, June 25
Nearly a ton of gold has been salvaged from the sunken P. and O. liner Egypt by the Artiglio’s divers. The average value of each shot of the grab was about £50,000, and six shots were made hourly. Tho salvage continues steadily all day long in the port end of the bullion room. Tho apparatus worked without a hitch. The. best single haul was seventeen bars and nearly 1000 sovereigns. VESSEL ARRESTED. Received June 27, 10.35 a.m. LONDON June 26. The Artiglio, carrying about £IBO,000 worth of gold bullion, was arrested on arrival at Plymouth under instructions from Captain Garli, the Admiralty marshal. As a result of the claim a warrant was nailed to the mast and the holds were sealed.
A special train was in readiness to convey tho bullion to London. Lloyds aro negotiating with the Admiralty marshal, hoping that their bond will be accepted, enabling its removal to London to-morrow where it will be formally guarded until released. The captain of the ship says that nearly £1,000,000 worth of bullion is still in the Egypt.
