During three years of the South African War Great Britain lost 5800 killed and 22,800 wounded. Last year on her public highways she lost 6691 killed and 202,199 injured. The total of killed and injured on the roads is now twice as great as it was in 1924 and five times as great as in 1911. Sir Herbert Samuel, speaking in the House of Commons, revealed that last year 18 persons were killed on the roads every day in Britain.
