LOYAL MANAWATU LODGE, 1.0.0. F., M.U.
The fortnightly meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows, was held on Thursday in tho Cuba Street hall under the com ductorslrip of N.G., Bro. Bradly. There was a fair attendance of members. One candidate for membership was elected and duly initiated into the order. Invitations were received from Onward Tent to a cards and dancing evening and from Apiti Lodge, to a meeting of Past Grands, the latter being relcrred to the secretary of the P.G. Lodge. Court Hinemoa invited members to attend a social evening and an invitation was received to attend a meeting with the Grand Master and Grand Secretary of the New Zealand branch. A letter was received from Loyal Napier lx>dge stating that Sister Bearsley, who was compelled to vacate tho chair of N.G. in Palmerston North owing to a change of address had been elected to tiro position of N.G. there and was completing her term of office. Apologies for absence were received from Bros. Eyre, Kearns, Wass and Freeman. Bro. Doy reported that the dance that was to have been held last Wednesday evening had to bo postponed until next week. Tho sick visitors’ report was received with thanks. Tho quarterly balance-sheet and report were read and adopted. Two bereavements have recently taken place, namely P.G. Bro. Kerslake and Sis. Wass’s father. Tiro lodge stood in silence for a minute and the secretary was instructed to send letters of condolence to their relatives. It was decided that P.G. Bro. Iverslake’s name be placed on the Memorial Board. P.G. Bro. Christiansen reported on a bowls match and stated that the lodge was unsuccessful. The lodge closed at 10.30 when the members partook of supper prepared by the sisters and afterwards spent the evening in dancing and' bowls.
