RUGBY RULES.
WELLINGTON, June 24
In future no replacement of injured players in any Rugby football matches in New Zealand, or matches in which the New Zealand teams compete, will be allowed, according to a statement made to-day by the chairman of the management committee of „the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr S. S. Dean. The above decision was reached by the committee following the receipt of communications on the matter from the Rugby Football Union (England). Mr Dean’s statement arose out of the Sydney message published on Thursday stating that in maches in which the New Zealand team was engaged the replacement of injured players would be allowed up to and including half time. “Following the assurance given at the last annual meeting of delegates to the Rugby Football Union (England), that the rules of the International Board will be observed in all games, there will be no replacing of injured New Zealand players during the Australian tour,” said Mr Dean. Recent correspondence from England makes this imperative, and in future the replacement of injured players will not be permissible in any matches played in New Zealand, or in matches pla.yed by New Zealand teams overseas. The management committee, in response to a communication from England, reaffirmed the decision of the delegates in this matter.”
A Sydney cablegram states that in response to a message from New Zealand the New South Wales Rugby Union agreed that there shall be no replacements of injured players in today’s match.
