Mr vv. u Wilson, the headmaster, and Mr • H. Elstone, first assistant at the school, kept charge of the floor,. the teachers of the school assisted the children with the dances, which inter spersed the programme. At a suitable juncture, Mr J- ten ney, chairman of the school committee, addressed the gathering and, alter ex pressing the thanks of the committee t the public and the Parents’ Association for conducting the function, referred to the loss the committee had sustained in Mr T. K. Hay, the late secretary re signing on account of a removal ot nis place of residence. During his period on the committee Mr Hay had E 1 , generous service, and Mr sired to explain that the improvements recently carried out at the school w largely due to Mr Hay s work. Mr Penney was pleased to know that Mr Hav had accepted office on the Manchester Street School Committee and was sure that, institution would benefit from his services. On behalf of the Parents’ Association and the committee it gave Mr Penney great pleasure to make Mr Hay a presentation which carried with it the sincere thanks ot all concerned in it. Mr Hav briefly returned thanks. Mr K. M. Little, president of the Parents’ Association, also addressed the gathering, expressing the thanks of the association for the support accorded the function. At the conclusion of the dance programme the children were entertained at supper provided by the parents and served by a committee of ladeis. INFECTIOUS DISEASES. Mr N. C. Harding, town clerk,. in pointing out that the case of diphtheria notified this week to the health officer in Feilding has been responsible for the spread of alarming rumours concerning the magnitude of the disease, officially states that no further cases have been notified. In all, Mr Harding explains, there have only been two cases of diphtheria, one notified about a fortnight ago and the other one this week. Both the ■children attended the same school and Mr Harding was emphatic that Feilding has no cause for alarm, its health sheet being quite clean.
