MARVELLOUS CURE.
BUT RECOVERED TO DIE. LONDON HOSPITAL TRAGEDY. LONDON, May 17. A poignant tragedy has occurred at the Hammersmith Hospital. Elizabeth Lloyd, aged 36, the wife of a South YYales miner, suffered from a disfiguring facial disease, and as a last resort was sent to Sir Harold Gillies, the noted plastic surgeon, who worked for six months to restore her features. In this he was surprisingly successful. When the bandages were removed medical students flocked to the ward to admire the operation. A mirror was handed to Mrs Lloyd, who said: “YVliat a surprise for my husband when he comes to see me on Whit Monday.” Her husband duly arrived at the" Hammersmith Hospital, and stayed with her for ten hours, chatting continuously find giving news-of their ten-year-old boy. They were apparently very happy. The nurse left the room for a few moments. She heard a piercing scream, and dashed back to find Lloyd lying across his wife’s bed with his throat cut. Mrs Lloyd was similarly injured. She died a few hours afterward, but the husband may recover. There is no hint in regard to the cause of the tragedy. Neighbours' of Lloyd at Aberdare say that he was depressed and unstrung following the weeks of anxiety.
