PAHIATUA
PAHIATUA, May 18. Miss J. Smith, of Waipukurau, and Miss F. Ilonoro, of Palmerston North, are the guests of Mrs I l ’. M. Dickens, Cambridge Street. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was hold Yesterday afternoon, about 70 members being present. The president, Mrs W. L. Tattle, was in the chair. Mrs Thomson, joint lion, secretary, who, with Mm Tattle, had been a delegato to the annual council meeting of the Wellington Federation, recently held in Palmerston North, gave a very interesting and clear account of tho proceedings. An apology for absence had been received from Mrs ii. Paterson, and Mra J. D. Wilson proposed a vote of sympathy with Mrs Paterson in her illness. This was seconded by Miss CV McKenny, and carried. Mrs Tattle was deputed to take a complete volume of Barrie’s plays, suitably inscribed, together with a delightful posy of violets (niado by the hon. treasurer, Mrs Green), to Mm Paterson directly after tho mooting closed. A memento was also handed to'Airs W. Harrison, for many years hon. secretary of the institute. A competition was won by Miss Berry, after which Mrs Harrison gave a very helpful and interesting demonstration on rug-making from otherwise waste materials.
