WOMEN’S DIVISION. Mrs C G C. Dermer presided at the monthly' meeting of the branch of the Women s Diinsron of the Farmers’ Union, which was held in the club rooms yesterday aiter “T was reported that arrangements were well in hand for the ball which is to be held shortly. The se - Wool” campaign was disciisscd and all members were asked to f onv! }rd th articles they have entered by May 14. The meeting also discussed the re Wits which are to go forward to the annual conference in Wellington m ers had been employed during the month. POWER BOABD ELECTIONS. As ratepayers of the Oroua County Council will notice from an advertisement in this issue, Mr A. Campbell, chairman of the council and representative of the council with Mr 0. McElroy on the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, is again offering his services to the ratepayers as their representative on the board. Mr Campbell announces that he will continue his efforts to have the Government commie rural and urban districts for tne.salo ot State-generated electricity and at the same time will stand for strict economy in the administering of the affairs ot the board, consistent with general efficiency. The striking of a rate, unless forced to by a deficit in finances, is opposed bv Mr Campbell for the reason than numerous ratepayers in me Oroua Countv who have not yet enjoyed the benefits of the electric power reticulation system would be penalised. Mr Campbell refutes the statement made at meetings in the district mat very little or nothing has been done by the present rural members of the board and, in exemplification of the efforts that have been made in the rural ratepayers’ interests, directs attention to the already very extengive progress in the reticulation or the Oroua County. The statement made that the committee set up is a vigilance committee to watch the interests of the country consumers of the board is also ruled out by Mr Campbell, who explains that the committee was set up for the express purpose of watching power board affairs on a national basis and, further, with the object of bringing pressure on the Government to legislate for the combination of rural and urban districts in which Stategenerated electricity is sold. Mr Campbell has had four years’ experience on the board besides his lengthy record of service as chairman of tne Oroua County Council.
