COAL MINERS ON STRIKE.
IDLE WORKS AT HIKURANGI. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, May 6. One hundred and eighty of the Hikurangi Coal company’s miners went on strike this morning as a protest against the retrenchment of 60 men. The mine is idle to-day. As the president and secretary of the Miners’ Union are in Auckland attending the Miners’ Conference the position is obscure.
