(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, May 5. The shooting season opened on Monday and a number of sportsmen wore out “bright had early.” Ono Otaki party secured 80 ducks.

The rainfall at tho Otaki golf links during April totalled 2.18 inches. Rain fell on 14 days; the heaviest full being ,63in on the 10th. The rainfall so far for the year B about 34 inches short of tho first four months of last year.'

There was a good attendanco of card players at the fortnightly euchre tournament -on Monday evening, hold in the Anglican Parish Hall. Tho prize winnors were: Ladies’ first, Miss R. Wood; men’s first, Mr 0. Nilsson, consolations, Miss K. Taylor and Mr A. Furso. Supper ivai served The ladies’ first prize was donatod by Mrs Royal and the men'6 first by Mrs A. W. Bills. Mr F., Wilson had tho misfortune on Wednesday to meet with a nasty accident through his home bolting. He was thrown out of a gig and had his wrist broken, besides receiving bruises and abrasions. Mr Hunt, of Convent Road, is at present an inmate of an hospital. Miss Ethel O’GrSdy, of Otaki, yesterday entered the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. Tho many friends of Miss Grant, who has beon in Rotorua for scvoral months for special treatment, will be pleased to learn that she has benefited and will return to her home this week. Mrs I. Wilson and her two litle daughters left Otaki yesterday to take up their residence at Rona Bay, Wellington. A very pretty wedding was solemnised at tho Anglican Church, Te Iloro, on Wednesday, April 27, when Thelma Annie, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Cobb, of Otaki, was married to William Gilbert, only son of Mr and Mrs W. Hayward, of Hautero' Cross. Rev. G. K. Moir was the officiating minister, while Miss K. Kirkcr presided at the organ. Tho bride looked charming as she. entered the church on the arm of her fnt’nor. She .was attired in a slim-fitting frock of ivory satin. anklelength, with a coateo trimmed with fisher net. Her handsome embroidered veil was caught to her head with a band of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of chrysanthemums and' pale pink cactus dahlias with maidenhair fern. Tho bride was attended by Miss Edna McGlashan, her cousin, and Miss Pearl Taylor. Both wore horizon blue satin frocks, fully flared with felt hats and satin shoes to tone. They carried bouquets of pale pink and cream chrysanthemums with asparagus fern. The duties of' best man wero carried out by Mr Burt, while Mr Arnold Taylor acted as groomsman. The Manakau Croquet Club terminated a very successful season yesterday when there wero players from all clubs, including a number from Plimmerton. Soveral competitions wero played and created keen interest.

A meeting of tho Otaki School Committee was held on Monday night when Dr. Milne presided. A discussion took place relative to the transport of children from Rahui and Main Road, and it was decided to write to the Education Board on tho matter, and discuss it at a later date. It was stated that Mr Dempsey’s resignation would tako place as from May 22. It was reported that a now appointment had not yet been made. It was resolved to accord Mr Dempsey a farewell at tho school. Messrs Alai Ison and Goar wero appointed a visiting committee. The matter of further ground improvement was loft to the sub-committee to attend to. It was reported that- as a result of the recent school sports there was a credit of £4 19s Id.
