DAIRY FARMERS’ UNION.

MONTHLY MEETING HELD. The executive of the New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union met at Palmerston North this afternoon, Mr N. Campbell • presiding. Others present were Messrs Bond, Richardson, Boyce, Gimblett, Faulding, Mason, Koehler, Seifert, AVagstaff, Balmer, Legg, Morcom, Poupard and Norman. Mr Balmer returned his thanks for the letter of sympathy forwarded to him. during his recent illness, and said he was much improved in health. The chairman said Mr Balmer’s services had been missed, and expressed pleasure at his resumption of normal activities. ■ It was decided that the subscription should remain the same as previously. The Ashhurst branch forwarded remits suggesting that the executive again give its attention to the question of patent remedies for stock. Mr Balmer said the Government should test out remedies placed on the market and make available the information obtained. Mr Mason said he understood that the Government had said definitely it was unable to deal effectively yet with certain stock maladies. Mr Seifert said he agreed with the remit, though the Government had informed farmers continually that it had no cure for mammitis. Mr Boyce said that if the Government was satisfied that certain cures being advanced were valueless, it ought to prohibit their sale. Mr Balmer said he contended that the department should try out cures to save farmers from wasting thousands of pounds. It was decided to advise farmers to seek the recommendations of the Department of Agriculture before trying out various remedies. The Ashhurst branch submitted a remit that the executive should deal with the question of postal voting at local body elections. Mr Balmer said it was considered that the same privileges ought to be extended to local body franchise as for Parliamentary franchise in order that absentee votes should be recognised.
