CHILEAN CURRENCY.
SANTIAGO (Chile), April 19. In an effort to prevent the wholesale collapse of the currency, Congress passed a measure officially suspending the gold standard, although a virtual non-gold standard has existed for some time. The official rate for the peso is 12 cents American gold. However, continued “bootlegging” of the currency has forced the rate downward. It is believed that the vnlue will now drop to five cents.
