GENERAL FORECAST. The recent anti-cyclone is now passing away and a rather deep depression of the westerly type is advancing toward New Zealand, its front having already reached the South Island. Moderate to strong northerly winds reaching gale force in places in and south of Cook Strait;* a change to southerly in the far south and later extending northward. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and off-shore south of Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Strong northerly to westerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, backing later to southerlies; seas rough. Weather cloudy and unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect in the far south, with rain developing; elsewhere fair at first, but with increasing cloud and later conditions becoming more generally unsettled. DISTRICT REPORT. SQUALLY AND~CHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for westerly winds, moderate to strong and increasing to gale force at times.
