IDLE SHIPS.
SIGHTS IN EVERY PORT. The spectacle of idle ships in every port is shaking France’s comfortable assumption that national thrift and industry confer upon her a magic immunity from the effects of the world crisis. The toll is increasing weekly with accelerated rhythm. , Only six of the 22 main ships are filled. French shippers share the Government’s view regarding the necessity for some kind of Washington agreement for mercantile marine, limiting the distribution of the world’s tonnage, imposing a drastic age limit, and enabling the disposal of surplus tonnago.
