QUARTERLY BOARD MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the board of office-bearers of the Cuba Street Methodist Church Circuit was held last evening, when Rev. J. D. McArthur presided over a large attendance. Proceedings opened with prayer by Mr Sandford and apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Flatt, Ferguson and Screech, and Messrs Sorenson and Flatt. Rev. Mr McArthur reported that the church roll was the same as for the previous quarter. Reporting on the financial position, Mr A. H. Fisher stated that the debit balance had been reduced by about £lO to £lO 7s sd. Foreign mission collections totalled £2 17s 2d, homo missions 17s, the trust fund £23 16s lOd, Women’s Missionary Auxiliary £5 6s 7d, orphanage fund 16s and poor fund 12s 2d. Mr Fislrer said that the satisfactory nature of the funds was duo partly to the connexional charge being reduced considerably, the car allowance being discontinued, and to the success of the envelope system. The Church had come through the quarter remarkably well. On the motion of Mr T. R. Hodder and Mr D. Collis, supported by Mr McArthur, Mr Candy was accorded a voto of appreciation for his valuable services as envelope steward. On Mr C. Woodley’s motion the ballance sheet was adopted. Special collections were granted as follow: —Foreign missions (Rev. A. H. Cropp, of Buka), June 5; Young People’s Sunday, June 12. Mr Hodder verbally reported on the Sunday school activities at the Cuba Street Church. The attendance was well up and there was a shortage of lady teachers. The school would bo continued in the morning until the end of April. Mr Screech reported a roll of 40 nnd an average attendance of 29 pupils at the Longburn school. A number of scholars nad entered for the union examination. The roll at Cloverlea was 18, with one new scholar, and eight were entering for the examinations.

Mr McArthur reported that the Longburn Bible Class was making progress, the attendance being exceedingly good. The Longburn Sunbeams Club also reported good progress. Concerning the additions to the Longburn church, Mr McArthur reported that the extra accommodation would be 38 feet'Ay 17 feet 6 inches. The Ladies’ Guild had £35 and Mr Davey had generously loaned the balance free of interest until it was possible to repay it. On the motion of Messrs Hodder and D. Collis formal permission was given for the work to proceed. Mr Hodder reported that a caucus quarterly meeting had been held to consider the extension of an invitation to Mr McArthur to remain for a sixth year and by an overwhelming majority it had been decided to extend the invitation to him. Mr Hodder very greatly regretted that Mr McArthur could not see his way clear to accede to the board’s request to remain for the period desired as under his guidance the Church had established very definite progress. Mr McArthur intimated that he considered holding a week’s mission during the winter months and members spoke very favourably of the mission conducted last year. Mr McArthur reported that at a local preachers’ meeting held on Tuesday evening an examination had been conducted when the candidates, Messrs E. Hoddinott, J. D. Watson and J. a. Willoughby had satisfied the requirements. On the motion of Mr Woodley, seconded by Mr J. T. Burrell, these were admitted as fully accredited local preachers on the plan of the Church. A letter of good wishes is to be forwarded to Mrs McEwan. of the Longburn society, who is at present seriously ill. Mr W. Flatt is to be sent a letter of good wishes for a recovery from his present illness. It was decided that the next meeting be held at Longburn.
