CAPTAIN DE GROOT FINED. SYDNEY, April 6. Captain F. E. De Groot "as convicted and fined £5 in the Police Court to-day on the charge of offensive behaviour arising from the cutting of the ribbon at the opening of the SydS.M., «,M that defendant’s action clearly had the approval of the New Guard movement. Tlie whole incident was prearranged. It was designed deliberately to interfere with a public ceremony conducted bv the Government of the State. The offence was aggravated by the fact that it was intended to behttlo the Premier of the State in the presence of the King’s representatives, for whom utter disrespect was shown. No person or organisation had any right to interfere with or interrupt proceedings of this nature, as it might lead to other disturbances and breaches of the peace —possibly a riot.
