Rev. D. J. Davies, of Greytown, who takes up the ministry of St. Peter’s Church, Terraco End, on Sunday, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday, accompanied by Mrs Davies.

Mr J. H. Gilmour, the New Zealand cartoonist, left Wellington by the Monowai on Tuesday to further his studies in London. He intends to reside for some time in London, where he has received a number of invitations to do painting and cartoon work. Flying-Officer D. W. Morrisli, R.A.F., formerly of Wliangarei, has been selected to attend a special fly-ing-boat course at Calshot, Southampton. The course will last six months. Flying-Officer Morrisli, who lias been an officer in the Royal Air Force for two years, was seriously injured in a crash in a dense fog early last year. Rev. F. H. Wilson, of the Sudan United Mission, a former resident of Dunedin, arrived at Auckland on the Niagara for four or five months furlough. He is accompanied by his wife, and the coui>le have completed eleven years’ work in the Sudan. At the end of furlough they will go to the United States, where they will resume church work. The Russell Street School Committee at its meeting last evening passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr R. Irwin who was the headmaster of the school in tlie early part of 1929. In the course of his report, Mr F. C. Campbell, the present headmaster, stated that the staff and pupils had cause to regret the passing of one who was possessed of a generous and lovable disposition.
