LAND SPEED RECORD.
MR “WIZARD” SMITH’S PLANS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND April 5. Mr “Wizard” Smith will return.to Auckland to-morrow from the Ninety Mile Beach. His car, the E. H. Stewart Enterprise, will also return to Auckland by steamer. The object is not officially announced, but a statement has been made that Mr Smith will have the car overhauled and will take it back to the beach next week. . TALK OF LIBEL ACTION. It is learned that Mr Don Harkness, the designer and builder of the Enterprise, will return to Auckland from Australia next week and that tomorrow a firm of solicitors acting for Mr Harkness will issue a writ against Mr’ Smith, claiming a sum of money alleged to be due from Mr Smith to Mr Harkness. It is also stated that Mr Harkness will launch an action claiming damages for alleged libel, Mr Harkness alleging that some of Mr Smith’s statements in the recent technical controversy have injured his reputation as an engineer.
