BRAVERY REWARDED

CHRISTCHURCH, March 21

Several awards for bravery were made by the Court of Directors of tho Royal Humane Society of New Zealand. The bronze medal was awarded to AV. I. Morgan, master of the tug Robey, AVellington, for attempting to rescue a man from drowning after the wreck of the Progress on May. 1, 1931. Bronze medals were, also awarded to Joyce and Thomas Lyon, of Balclutha, aged 15 and,. 14 respectively, who boat off an infuriated hull which was attacking their father. Certificates were awarded to S. M. Stephenson, of New Plymouth, G. Williams and H. Crichton, seamen on the Opihi, for rescuing two men from the Paritutu Rock, New Plymouth, on June 14, 1931; to Louis Cecil, aged 46, of Auckland, for rescuing three girls drowning at Henderson on January 4; to John Frederick Graham Freeman, aged 70, of AA’cstport, for rescuing a girl from drowning on January 8.
