REVENUE BILL.
UNITED STATES MEASURE. Received March 22, 12.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, March 21. A spirit of compromise on the billion dollar Tax Bill led the Ways and Means Cbmmittee of the House of Representatives to-day to vote for the removal of the proposed levies on foods, clothing and prescribed medicines. The decision goes far toward beating down all opposition to the 2.25 per cent, levy on manufactured articles, and eliminates about 150,000,000 dollars from thre revenue of 595,000,000 dollars expected from the levy under the original programme. The acting-chairman, Mr Crisp said that the committee must get something else to make up the difference.
