FRANCE AND ITALY
NAVAL ARMAMENTS. A BASIS OF LIMITATION. EFFORTS FOR SETTLEMENT. (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received March 22, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, March 21. The Daily Telegraph Diplomatic writer says that, for the fourth time since the London Naval Conference of 1930, France and Italy are endeavouring to devise a formula to settle the naval problem.
France proposes to offer parity, but only in the Mediterranean, and not in aggregate tonnage of the fleets. France claims the right to keep special squadrons for the protection of her Pacific and other remote possessions, also squadrons in the Atlantic and North Sea at least equal to those to which Germany is entitled under the Versailles Treaty.
