BACTERIOLOGICAL SERVICE.
CHARGE INSISTED UPON. “It has been decided that the policy under which examinations are carried put in the interests of health free of cost to patients shall be modified to require that a charge be made in all cases where the patient is deemed able to pay,” y tho Palmerston North Hospital Board was notified yesterday by the Department of Health, concerning tho carrying out of bacteriological work. “The system it is proposed to introduce is on the lines of that which has been operated in connection with the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s bacteriological laboratory 'for some years. It is proposed that the new arrangement shall operate from April Ist.” The matter was referred to the secretary of the Hospital Boards’ Association to confer with the Director-Gen-eral of Health.
