Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 19. Percy L. Brady was to-day fined £5 -for disposing of shoes by means of chance, and £5 for obstructing the traffic in Willis Street. His manager, Allan Perry, was convicted and discharged. Odd shoes were thrown .into the street so /that people could claim the mates. Francis Richard Holton, of Pae kakariki, and Walter Leak were fined £5 and costs for exhibiting a film at Plimpierton when they were not holders of an exhibitor’s license in respect of the hall. It was stated that the premises had been found to be unsuitable and that the defendants were under notice to make a lean-to fireproof, but had shown films before the work was done. The case in which Frances Rickards proceeded against Catts-Patterson (N.Z.), Ltd., for £195, as threo months’ salary in lieu of notice, ended to-day', Mr Page, S.M., was of the opinion that there were not sufficient circumstances to justify plaintiff’s dismissal .without notice, and gave judgment for £140,. plus £ll costs.

Henderson and MacFarlane, Ltd.', as agents for the Danish ship Astoria, and an oil company, as agents for the Norwegian ship Andrea, were to-day at Auckland fined £25 and £SO, respectively, for discharging oil into the harbour. Two young men ; Alfred John Sorivens, aged 24, single, an unemployed. carpenter, and John Burman Barns, aged 24, single, a cleaner until recently, employed in the; Railway Department, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to-day to breaking and entering Luxford’s store at Wanganui East, and theft, and being in possession of an . instrument for housebreaking. Barns also pleaded guilty to receiving goods knowing them to have been, dishonestly obtained, Accused were committed to the Supreme Court at* Wanganui for sentence.
