WAGE REDUCTION
ARBITRATION COURT HEARING. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 19. The Arbitration Court' to-day heard an application by unions whose members are employed by the Waihi Gold Mining Company at Waihi for the restoration of the ten per cent, wages cut. The grounds were that goldmining is not affected by the depression, but is prosperous. • The company opposed the application on the ground that nobody could forecast how long the pres«nt prices would continue. If the war debts were cancelled and Britain’s external trade nnj proved, the demand for gold would slacken. Judgment was reserved.
