FOXTON

(From Our Own Correspondent). FOXTON, Dec. 5T The final meeting of the year of the Foxton Lunch Club was presided over by Mr G. F. Smith. The chairman intimated that the set' epeaker for the day had been unavoidably prevented from attending and suggested that members discuss the matter of the club going into recess as suggested by the executive at its recent meeting. Personally he would be very sorry to see such action adopted, but if members were not going to attend meetings regularly there was no alternative.

Mr D. Christie (president) said that an executive meeting had recently been called to consider the matter owing to the poorness of tho attendances. That meeting had not been well attended, but members present had been unanimous in their decision to recommend the club to go into recess. A perusal of the attendance book disclosed the fact that the club had a membership of 28, but the average attendance at meetings was only half that number. It was unanimously decided that the club go into recess for January and February and that the annual meeting be held in March when the position will again be reviewed. A pleasant little function was then performed by the chairman who called on Miss Godfrey to accept a small token of the club members’ appreciation of her services during the past year. SURF AND LIFE SAVING CLUB. The annual meeting of the Foxton Surf and life Saving Club wa3 presided over by Mr M. E. Perreau (president). There was a large atendance of members, while several apologies for absence were received, including one from members of the Manawatu Head Centre who had been unable to attend at the lost moment. The balance-sheet was read as follow: The balance-sheet assets valued at £B7 16s with no laibilities. Commenting on the club’s position, the chairman said that it was most satisfactory. The club had held together very well during the winter months owing chiefly to the efforts of the executive in organising dances and various functions which had contributed greatly to the social life of the community. He regretted that Mr W. C. Collier and his Palmerston North colleagues were not able to _bo present and referred to the great assistance they had rendered the club during the past year. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr J. Linklater, M.P.; president, Mr M. E. Perreau; vice-presidents, Messrs -W. Ingram (Palmerston North). E. West (Palmerston North), S. R. Austin, R. .0. Hornblow, R. Chaffey, A. E. Eaglev (Palmerston North), W. Hunter (Palmerston North), A and W. E. Alsop, A. D. Campbell (Palmerston North), W. C. Collier (Palmerston North), H. C. Collinson (Palmerston North), R. E. Small (Palmerston North), S. J. Harvey and G. A. Thomas; committee, Messrs K. Preston, L. King, A. Alexander, M. Baird, H. Perreau, C. Anderson, E. Robinson; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Huesey; assistant secretary, Mr J. Barrat; club captain, Mr G. Shaw; vice-captain, Mr K. Preston; delegate to Head Centre, Mr A. Alsop; auditor, Mr J. L. Christie; hon. instructor, Mr R. A. Robbie. A letter was received from Miss D. Whibley (Palmerston North) and Mr Rosenbeck (Ashhuret) enclosing a donation of £1 Is and expressing thanks and apperciation to the club for the _ assistance rendered them when in difficulties on the local beach recently.—Received with thanks. , In connection with the erection of the pavilion, Mr R. A. Robbie suggested that Palmerston North carpenters be approached and asked if they would agree to .forming a working “bee” with a view to having the pavilion at the beach completed in time for the opening of the season. Mr A. Alsop reported on the progress to building operations and favoured a canvas of local carpenters in preference to asking Palmerston North men to assist as they had already done a good deal towards the building. He offered his services in this connection. Mr A. G. Thomas also offered to assist and it was left la the hands of the chairman to arrange a working “bee” for Monday next. The president suggested that the local Cycle Club be approached with a view to seeing if it would agree to make a donation towards the cost of erecting the pavilion. The club had a considerable sum of money on hand, raised by local residents, for the construction of a cj;cle track which had not been gone on with. It was decided to write the club as suggested.
