RACING NEWS.

FROM STABLE AND COURSE,

(By “Binocular.”)

Winnagan lias again linked up with L. JSnapp’s team after a spell in. the padlock. ; Although Swift-ray was not accepted tor |it Woodville, the Arrowsmith gelding is ;*till doing well in his work. Trojan jMelody, another member of G. W. New’s 'stable who also failed to survive neTceptance night, was eased up in his work ■lifter Tedding. Royal lilack is down to make his debut in the role of hurdler at The Royal Stag gelding strode out very freely over a round on the plough at Awapitni on Saturday, and as he has been jumping •well in private, he might play a part in |he finish. Miles will be his pilot. Merry Damon has been on the easy Jist for go me time past, but the Po.iy'klamon gelding is again being speeded tip. Last year he was most unlucky in the jfdanawatu Cup, but he is not to be given bn opportunity to make amends this Christmas for he has been entered in the (Grandstand Handicap in preference. Keddar, who has been more or lees unbound for some time, was again lame after galloping on Saturday, and there appears bo be little likelihood of J. P. Coyle’s jperseverence being rewarded. As Pahu Las been sent through to his owner for a bpell the stable is again undergoing a Repletion. The raking Gasbag three-year-old, Black Stiver, took charge of his rider on Sattirday morning and he covered three circuits before being halted. The boy stuck to hU task gamely, but his strength was -expended before the close. A surprise absentee from the Palmerston Jsorth Stakes is La Poupee, who was profnising to recover her old form in the Very near future. The Tea Tray filly has Been thrown but of work at a critical etage and much of her trainer’s work promises to come undone. The Lackham —Bamba ■ gelding, who was In work under T. Goodwin, met with a leg injury which has necessitated him being accorded a spell. .The mentor has, however, taken up a racy looking halfbrother by Joculator. Other newcomers to the tracks are a half-brother to Arrow Rad and Jean Ladosio by Nigger Minetrel and a gelding by Arausio —Itamos, (who is thus a full-brother to blaster Arausio. The Te Awamutu trainer, A._ Cook, who beaded the list of winning trainers with three wins at the Takapuna meeting, has had mixed luck with his horses in the past month. Two of the best members of tho team, Tankard and Biddy’s Boy, have had to be destroyed, as the result of accidents, and he has temporarily lost tho services of Leitrim, who has developed soreness. It is anticipated that Leitrim’s trouble will cause him to miss his summer (engagements. A new totalisator indicator was used for Ithe first time at Sandown Park (England) recently, and it appeared to meet with popular approval. Instead of the number of umt3 appearing on the board, which is Jble from each of the rings, the approximate odds ruling at the moment were given. The odds were arranged in parallel lines, from 3 to 1 on down to long odds against. The numbers of the horses were raised like the working of a barometer to roach the requisite line. When the odds first appeared No. 10 (Musical Prince) and 13 (Sediranda) both went up to the 2 to 1 fine, and No. 11 (En Garde) on the 4 to 1 line. After that the numbers of the horse 3 moved up and down in accordance with the investments made. Five minutes later No. 11 :(En Garde) and 13 (Sediranda) were on the 2 to 1 line, whilst 17 (Saint Eortunat) had gone up to the 4 to 1 mark. By this means backers were able to see at a glance the Approximate rate of any horse at the moment, and were saved the trouble of any jinathematical calculation. I TAUMARNUI MEETING.
