CHANGES IN MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. The Minister of Railways, Rt. Hon. G. \V. Forbes, announces that Mr H. H. Sterling retires from the position of general manager of railways as from December 6 and has been appointed chairman of the Railways Board from the same date in place of Colonel Essen, who has resigned. Mr P. G. Iloussell, the present general superintendent of transport, has been appointed general manager. The board announces that Mr M. Dennehy, assistant general manager, who has retired on superannuation, will be succeeded by Mr G. H. Mackley, chief clerk at the railway head office. The board has also made the following appointments : —Mr Casey to be chief engineer vice Mr E. Widdop, retired on superannuation; the position of inspecting engineer in the civil engineering branch, at present held by Mr Bertinshaw, will be amalgamated with the position of assistant chief engineer lately occupied by Mr Davidson, retired on superannuation, and Mr Bertinshaw is to be promoted to the office; Mr H. \V. Beasley, district engineer at Wanganui, to be district engineer at Auckland; Mr EL L. P. Smith, district engineer at Ohakune, to be district engineer at Wellington ; Mr P. H. Morey, district engineer at Invercargill, to be district engineer at Dunedin; Mr H. C. Lusty assistant district engineer at Christchurch, to be district engineer at Invercargill; Mr I. J. Howell, assistant district engineer at Auckland, to be district engineer at Wanganui; Mr J. Dow, assistant engineer at Auckland, to be district engineer at Ohakune; Mr 0. J. Doige, assistant engineer at Ohakune, to be assistant district engineer at Auckland; Mr G. A. K. Simmers, first assistant engineer at Christchurch, to be assistant district engineer at Christchurch; Mr G. M. llecke, first assistant engineer at Wellington, to be assistant district engineer at Dunedin.
