DIFFICULT REQUEST.
WEST AUSTRALIAN SECESSION. While admitting that the Imperial Parliament still had formal power to grant West Australia’s plea for secession, Professor Berriedale Keith, the constitutional authority, in an interview in Edinburgh, said it would be difficult to adduce proof to warrant such action. He was referring to the suggestion of the Premier of West Australia. Sir James Mitchell, that the British Parliament could amend the Federal Constitution to exclude West Australia from the Commonwealth, if the State were subjected to injustice by the Commonwealth.
