GARDEN PARTIES

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTIONS. BRIGHT WEATHER CONDITIONS. Bright sunshine favoured two garden parties held under exceptionally, pleasant conditions in Palmerston North yesterday afternoon. An enjoyable time was spent by those who attended the function conducted bv the Missionary Guild of All Saints’ at the Vicarage, where there were some attractive stalls in a garden atmosphere. . Canon G. Y. Woodward and Mrs Woodward welcomed the visitors. The vicar stated that, in addition to the quota of £205 for All Saints’ parish for missionary funds, a further 12J per cent, was required this vear. A gratifying feature last year had been that AH' Saints’ had headed the list in the contribution? to missions of the parishes in the diocese and he hoped they would do so again. The vicar then called upon the Mayoress to open the function. Mrs Mansford said it was very gratifying to find so many people prepared to devote their time to assisting the mission work of the church. The well stocked stalls testified to the energy of the guild and the willing helpers proved that the spirit of ser-. vice in the church was very real. At no time had there been a greater call for mission work. In declaring the garden party duly open Mrs Mansford said she trusted the result would exceed all expectations, c The stall-holders were as follow : Produce, Mrs Byrne, Misses Clark and J. Phillips judged the home industries competitions, which resulted as follow : —Sponge cake, Mrs Spring; plate of scones, Mrs Taylor.
