RACING NEWS.

FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”)

Curio ran good races at Feilding without being able to earn a dividend. The Arausio gelding’s turn should come before long. Hampden looked somewhat big when ho raced at Levin, but he was supported very confidently by his party at Feilding. However, the Tea Tray colt did not fulfill expectations. Haulbowline went very close to registering his second win on the opening day at Feilding. A bad jump-out on the second day ruined liia chances although he finished well.

Lady Court, who is temporarily accommodated at Awapuni, has been racing consistently without being quite good enough to secure the major portion of a stake. Better drawn at the barrier the Romeo mare might well register a win. Ruanui always races well when fresh, but two thirds was the best the Limond gelding could do ab Feilding. However, he should be all the better for the outings and he should gather some stake money at Christmas time. Teller, who was trained at Awapuni in his early career—his best effort last season being his victory in the Hopeful Stakes nt Trentham last January—now carries the same colours as Pillow Fight. Open company promises to be a little beyond the Paper Money gelding meantime. Emerging from hack into open company at the Now Zealand Cup meeting, Nightmare was confidently backed at two of her starts in the south only to fail to pay a dividend. On the opening day at Feilding she was again favourite, but was allowed to retreat to fifth in the betting order on the second day. Backers are still waiting to get their money back. Mr C. Louisson, president of the Manawatu Racing Club, has but one horse, Patearoa, carrying his colours at present, and the manner in which the Acre gelding finished at Feilding made it appear as though he will do better in the near future. Mr Louisson’s brood mare Kilmiss produced a colt foal to Lackham last year, while this season sho foaled a filly to Nigger Minstrel. She has now gone south on a visit to Nightmarch. Lucky Moment, a Lackham —Musical Moment gelding, was running prominently when the field in the Aorangi Trial Plato on the opening day at Feilding was coming into the straight, but he disappeared from the picture. On returning to the birdcage it was evident that he had broken down and it is now stated that he may have to be destroyed. Weatherstep, who won the Novice Stakes on the second day at Feilding from another of tho same family in Ih Vain, is a three-year-old half-sister to Patuki, Bugle Note and Mount Shannon, being out of tho Martian mare Mazurka. A good type filly, she should prove capablo of winning again in the near future. The three-year-old filly Paioneone, who is by Acre from Tukia, showed a good turn of speed at her appoarances at Feilding. Her owner, Mr W. McA. Duncan, has had somewhat of a weak team for some little time past, and it is quite possible that Paioneone will prove a very useful stake earner for him. Arouse, who ran second to Pillow Fight in the Nursery Handicap at Feilding, showed distinct promise. He is a well grown youngster out of Wake Up, being

thus a half-brother to To Atiawa and Awaken. He jumped away very smartly and beat all but Pillow Fight homo. It is tho intention of his owner-trainer to take him to Auckland for tho Great Northern Foal Stakes. The Borough Handicap on the opening day of tho Takapuna meeting provided a great finish between Chrysology and Paganolli, who crossed the lino almost on terms, the verdict going to the firstnamed by a neck, writes “Whalebone.’ Paganolli began with all his custpmary speed and was about two lengths clear of the field as they crossed the top, his nearest attendants 'being Chrysology and Lady’s Boy. He appeared tho winner 50 yds from the post, where ChrysologJ threw out a strong challenge and just got up on the post. This was Paganelli’s best effort for some time past and goes to prove that he has lost little of bis brilliancy as the race was run in very fast time. Prolyxo, who won a double at the Takapuna mooting, is a two-year-old sister to Ammon Ra and is trained in tho some stable. J. T. Jamieson, took her to Sydney in tho spring, but did not race her, and these were her first starts. She has thus opened her career more auspiciously than did her well-performed brother, who was beaten in a race at Takapuna a year ago. That defeat, however, was the prelude to a subsequent all-conquoring career.

Glenartney, who made his reappearance at Feilding, was very speedy at two and three years, but ho has been off tho scene for nearly two years. It is interesting to note that ho has retained his brilliance. He is by Hunting Song from the Finland mare Melodise, dam also of Agitato and Vivo, and of tho same family as Finora, Finelli, Will Oakland and tho Now Zealand Cup winner Downfall. As a two year-old be won at tho last of his four starts, and tho next season he scored twice and was twice placed in eight starts. His last appearance was in the Metropolitan Handicap, six furlongs, at last year’s Wellington summer meeting. When Autopay won the A.J.C. Ep6om Handicap, Ticino, trained by E. H, Ball, of Randwick, was a close second. Tlio form induced Ball to take Ticino to Melbourne for the spring meetings. It proved a fateful decision. Ticino went amiss and could not run. Travelling overland by car, Ball was involved in an accident. The oar turned over and Ball fractured several ribs. Serious consequences were not anticipated, but complications developed and ho died on November 12 in Melbourne. Ball began as a trainer of ponies and later transferred to the registered ranks, whero he met with a fair share of success. RACING IN AUSTRALIA. . "SYDNEY, Dec. 2. The Australian Jockey Club held its races at Warwick Farm to-day in drizzling rain. The Warwick Farm Handicap resulted: Gemlight, 7.4 (Knox) 1; Boorcello, 6.7 (Lightfoot) 2; Vertigern. 8.7 (McCarten) 3. Seven started. Won by a length and a-half, half a length between second and third. Time, 2.6}. The New Zealander, Huntique, ridden by Webster, was unplaced in the first division of the Maiden Handicap.
