MARTON. Sept. 26. Mr George Cummins, a well-known and highly-esteemed resident of Marton, passed away at the Wanganui Hospital on Thursday at the age of 78 years.

The Rangitikei Cricket Association and Marton Old Boys’ Football Club combined in holding their first inaugural ball in tho Civic Theatro at Marton on Friday evening, and from every point of view tho function was a great success. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies’ committee, which consisted of Mesdames A. A. Mclndoe, G. L. Marshall, H. F. Arkwright, D. McLean, S. J. Gibbons, T. Barton, G. Oliver, A. G. M. Parkinson, C. A. Tidy, G. Morris, A. S. Coleman, A. B. Inncs, P. J. Sladden, B. Parkes, and Misses E. Smith, Trotter, Willis, E. Moore and Fullerton-Smith. The general committee responsible for the management of the ball were Messrs A. A. Mclndoe (chairman), B. Innes, H. Parkes, M. Waldin, D. Barton, H. Low, the joint secretaries being Messrs G. B. Fullerton-Smith and J. G. Thomas. Messrs \V, E. Gibbons, J. Dickson, H. Low, M. Waldin and J. Wilkie efficiently filled the role of M.C.’s. MARTON. Sept, 28.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Mar ton Lodge was held; on Friday evening, a good attendance of members being presided over by Bro. W. D. Jackson, P.G., in the unavoidable absence of Bro. 11. G. Allison. One new member was admitted. Reports showed several members on the sick list, mainly duo to the prevailing influenza. All are making good progress. An invitation to meet the District and Society Officers at IX'vin on October 24 was received from the Levin Lodge, and if possible the Lodge will be represented. A motion of condolence with Bro. F. Hill was passed in connection with the recent bereavement in his family . Owing to pressure of other engagements Bro. K. H. Fowler found it necessary to tender his resignation as Guardian, and it was accepted with regret. Another Guardian will be appointed at the next meeting, when a degree lecture will also be held. Reports wero received concerning the installation of officers of Bulls, the Ritual Competition at Wanganui, and a presentation of an enlarged photograph of the late Bro. T. Copeland, P.P.G.M., of the Wanganui Lodge, to Mrs Copeland. Regarding the ritual competition it was decided to keep up practice, and endeavour to get the challenge decided in the near future.
