Received August 21, 9.30 a.m. NORWICH, Aug. 20. The New Zealand cricketers commenced their match against Norfolk to-day in fine weather. The wicket was easy. Page won the toss, and New Zealand batted, scoring 225 in the first innings. Norfolk had scored 24 for the loss of one wicket when stumps were drawn for the day. Play ended half an hour early owing to rain. The teams are as follow:

Norfolk: Roughtrought (3), Falcon, Walker, Pedder, Smiui, Scottchad, Foster, Ooldham, Eagle. New Zealand: Page, Cromb, Matheson, Weir, Kerr, Dempster, ■ James, Allcott, Talbot, Mills, Merritt.

The New Zealanders started badly, losing 4 wickets for 80 runs. The batting was somewhat uneven. Dempster and Talbot added 86 for the fifth wicket. The former, despite his lack of practice, maintained a magnificent defence, and was also quick to score oS any loose deliveries, particularly on the leg side. He appeared set for his century when he was bowled off his pads. He batted for 190 minutes and hit seven fours.

Talbot batted steadily, but was caught by the wicketkeeper. The bowling was never dangerous, although tho wind enabled Eagle and R. Roughtrought to swing the ball.

Th© weather in the afternoon turned wintry. Norfolk batted for 45 minutes. Matheson wore his sweater when bowling and dismissed Falcon with a ball which left the pitch like lightning.
