THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. Pressure has remained fairly uniform over the Dominion. Slight anticyclones are located both to the east and west, but a depression is now moving on to eastern Australia. Winds light and variable; mainly southerly at first, but veering to westerly and northerly shortly in and south of Cook Strait. Seas generally smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Light and variable winds, tending northerly in the eastern Tasman Sea; seas smooth to moderate. eather fair generally, but dull and misty at times, and some isolated light showers at first along the East Coast.

RAIN EXPECTED
The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for moderate southerly winds and freshening later and veering by south to west. Expect dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts. Rain is probable. The barometer is unsteady. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—3ft.
