ELECTRIC POWER.
INCREASED CONSUMPTION IN
HORO WHENUA
At the monthly meeting of tho Horowlienua Power jJoard tins week, the engineer’s report disclosed an increase in the consumption of power. The connected load up to August 11 was 10,854 kilowatts constituted by milking machines (847 h.p.), industrial motors (3044 h.p.), heating points (2884 k.w.), ranges (3245 k.w.), water heaters (1565 k.w.) and lighting (1239 k.w.), the number of consumers being 3690. The engineer also reported that in the past month 17 applications were received from new consumers and 37 applications for extensions to existing installations. Seven new consumers and 36 extensions were connected.
In moving the adoption of the report, the ciiainnan (Mr Monk) said that applications for new installations and extentions were most gratifying. It seemed as if the demand was going on indefinitely at the same rate. Referring to the growth in the country area, the chairman said that when the district was being reticulated in 1923 it was known that the maximum number of dairies in the district was just under x 500. Now there were 677 motors being served, in 569 cowsheds.
Mr Barber said the general regret was that so many farmers who wanted the power were not able to get it.
Mr A. Seifert said that the end of reticulation was not yet in sight. Thousands of acres of land were coming into dairying use in tire northern part of the district.
