FEILDING
CHELTENHAM SCHOOL. Arbour Day was celebrated at the Cheltenham School with the holding of appropriate lessons and a programme of singing and recitation by the children. In the school grounds a number of trees planted in former years were attended to, and at the conclusion of the celebrations afternoon tea was served to the fair number of parents, present, an enjoyable function thus being brought to a close. The members of the School Committee recently held a working bee for the purpose of erecting a cycle and saddle shed. This will fill a long-felt want. A well metalled approach was also made from the road to the shed. On Tuesday a basketball match was held between two local teams and two teams from the Apiti school. The day cleared up nicely and the afternoon was fine. Quite a number of parents showed their interest by attending. The local A team won its game by 15 to 5 and the B team by 14 to nil. The games were quite fast and well played, the girls playing with great vim. After the games, Ray Hitchman spoke on behalf of Apiti and Jean Tappin replied on behalf of Cheltenham.
