AN EXCITING FIGHT.

CUSTOMS OFFICER AND SMUGGLER. A thrilling fight occurred between a Customs officer and a smuggler aboard the smuggler’s motor car travelling at full speed, at the village of’ Wasnenberg, on the Belgian frontier recently. Tho Customs officer managed to leap into the car. The driver hit him with a spanner and bit his hand. The car crashed into the wall of a house and the smuggler jumped out and escaped on a motor cycle.

The' car was found to contain a large quantity of coffee and tobacco. It is stated that 5862 cases of smuggling are at present before the courts at Cologne. Eleven million cigarettes 21,000 cigars, a ton of tobacco, a ton of coffee, and 32 tons of grain and flour were confiscated recently.
