NAPIER’S WATERFRONT.

IMPROVING THE APPEARANCE

NAPIER, Aug. 19. The proposal for the development and beautification of the Napier waterfront, which has been in the course of consideration bv a snecial

sub-committee of the Napier ■ Reconi struction Committee, has reached the stage at which a plan of the scheme | has been prepared. It presents many ; attractive features which should do i much to preserve the maritime attrac- | tions of the town. A few of the proposals cannot be expected to be undertaken at present, but the main idea, that of widening the Marine Parade, will be undertaken probably in the very near future, when advantage will be taken of the Unemployment Board’s No. 6 scheme to do filling in work, utilising debris from the buildings in the devastated area of the town and also the j. material from the Bluff Hill slip.

'At a recent meeting of the National Committee of the Amalgamated Engineering Union at Blackpool, England, it was stated that nearly £700,000 of the union’s funds were paid out to unemployed members last year, bringing the total since 1920 to £10,000,000.
