CHILEAN EXILE.
RESCUED AS FILM ACTOR. Expecting to find an exiled general and his staff at Easter Island, a Chilean possession, officers of the Chilean naval training ship General Baquedano, which reached Sydney the other day, were surprised, on arrival at the island, to find that he had disappeared. The Governor of the island was also missing. The general, who had retired from the service, was convicted of plotting to cause a mutiny at the barracks at Concepcion, with a view to deposing the President of the Republic. He was deported to Easter Island, and placed under the charge of the Governor. Finding neither of them at the island, the training ship continued her journey to Papeete, a French possession. There they found both men, who >vere not in the least concerned' at being discovered. They explained euite airily that the French, thinking a film party ivas stranded at Easter Island, had sent a boat for tlieirt. Later the conspirators went to Paris.
