STEEPLECHASE TRAGEDY.
A FATALITY AT MARTON. Crushed when his ..mount fell in the last event at tlie Rangitikei Hunt Club’s meeting at Marion yesterday, Mr Evan McGregor, of Turakina Valley, sustained injuries from which lie died before admission to hospital, says tlie Wanganui Chronicle. Mr McGregor, riding Glamis, owned by Miss Jessie McGregor, in the Members’ Steeplechase, had a good lead after six furlongs had been covered. The horse fell at a jump, Mr McGregor being injured internally. Dr. Dick was quickly on the scene, and Mr McGregor was taken to hospital. The accident cast a gloom over Marion. Mr McGregor had always been a keen rider to hounds. - Born 61 years ago, a son of the late Mr James McGregor, one of the earliest settlers of the Turakina Valley, the late Mr Evan McGregor was very widelv known throughout Rangitikei. The late Mr McGregor married Flora, a daughter of the late Rev. Mr Ross, and is survived by his widow and ten children.
