WOMEN’S DEPUTATION.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 23. The desirability of closing the Courts when unsavoury cases are being dealt with was raised by the Wellington branch of the Women’s National Council in a deputation to Hon. J. G. Cobbe to-day. The Minister undertook to circularise magistrates asking them to exercise the discretion they possess. N lt was stated that the women were not asking for anything in the way of Star Chamber methods nor the exclusion of the Press, but it was stated that women witnesses in separation, maintenance and affiliation cases were very often subjected to annoyance by undesirable persons. _ The question of the appointment of women police was also raised and the Minister said it would receive his consideration.
