FAREWELL EVENING

A very pleasant time was spent at the Y.W.C.A. hostel last evening when the girls gathered together to bid farewell to Miss J. Scott who, in view of her approaching marriage, is leaving Palmerston North, and also to Miss Miller, who is retiring from the position as matron of the hostel. On behalf of the hostel girls, Miss 1. Wilson presented Miss Scott with a beautiful linen tablecloth and serviettes to match, wishing her every happiness in her new sphere of life. Miss Scott expressed appreciation of the many kindnesses shown her during her lengthy residence at the hostel. Miss J. Gilmour then presented Miss Miller with a leather handbag as a parting gift from the girls, and in a subsequent response to the thoughtful manner in which the girls ivad served her during her term of office regret at leaving them was expressed by Miss Miller. Mrs Sinclair, on behalf of the board, wished Miss Scott every happiness in her future life and stated that she would be greatly missed, having been so long with them. The room was a scene of merriment, artistic fancy costumes being the outstanding feautre. Musical items which were thoroughly appreciated were given by Miss M. Jones, violin solo, and'Miss Pinckney at the piano. Dancing games and competitions were indulged in during the rest of the evening. Among those present were :• Mrs Sinclair, Miss Miller, Miss O. Jones, Strolling Musician; J. Gloyne, Rosebud; L. Keutenius, Baby Doll; J. Rawson, Country Maid; I. Wilson, Yokel; M. Snowdon, Irish Colleen.

The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
