GENERAL FORECAST.
An intense cyclone has moved rapidly on to the Dominion, its centre having been located ever the Auckland Peninsula yesterday. Strong tfinds between north-east and south-east, reaching gale force in places north of Westport and Kaikoura. Seas rough north of. Westport and Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Winds becoming west or south-west in the eastern Tasman Sea; strong in the northern portion and moderate in the southern; seas rather rough xo rough. Weather dull and misty generally ; rain north of Westport and Kaikoura, with some heavy falls, and scattered rain thence southward; snow on the high lands. Temperatures cool. DISTRICT REPORT. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for southeasterly winds, moderate to strong and freshening at times. Expect dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts, and snow in the high country. There will be cold temperatures. The barometer is unsteady. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —3ft 9ins.
