CHINESE SHOT DEAD.
AMERICAN DOCTOR DETAINED. ICOUMINTANG’S DEMANDS. Received July 23, 8.40 a.m. SHANGHAI, July 22. Following the disappearance of the British youth, Thorburn, the Chinese military authorities are now detaining Dr Francis Tucker, head of the American Mission Hospital at Tevchow, in north-west Shantung, as a result of the shooting and killing of a Chinese who was caught in the act of robbing tlic mission hospital. The local branch of the Kuomintang are demanding that Dr Tucker he executed ; also an apology from the United States, and indemnity for the relatives of the dead Chinese.
