PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, July 4. The death occurred at his residence at Omatane, Taihape,. on Friday morning, of Mr John McCartin, at the ago of 74. The late Mr McCartin, who was born in Ireland in 1857, emigrated to New Zealand' in 1878, and’ was engaged in contracting for some time in the Pahiatua district. Ho was successful in a land ballot for a section near Taihape, in 1896, a farm which has since been many time enlarged. His wife, formerly Miss Ellon Summers, of Woodville, whom he married in 1891, died in 1826. He is survived by one son and four daughters—Mr Jack McCartin (Waipawa), Mrs C. Murphy (Morrinsville), Mrs Vern Nicholls (Taihape), and Misses E. and N. McCartin (Omatani, Taihape).
