CANCER RESEARCH.

HOW NEW ZEALAND CAN HELP.

WORLD-WIDE CO-ORDINATION

The object of New Zealand’s part in the Empire Cancer Campaign is to raise a fund of £IOO,OOO, which it is hoped will make a sufficient endowment to provide ample finance for the work which ought to be done in the Dominion. This outcome would mean that there would be no need to make further ap- * peals to the public. A considerable sum of money has already been raised, and plans are in hand to carry the campaign to an early conclusion. One aspect of the activities of the New Zealand Branch is to carry out research work in connection with the actual cause and cure of cancer. This research is centred in Dunedin, at the Medical School of the University. Another aspect is the education of the public—the removal of the mystery which exists with regard to the disease, and the implanting of a message of hope., pointing to the fact that cancer in its early stages is usually curable when properly treated. Cancer clinics have been established at the larger hospitals and are giving excellent service.

The work undertaken in New Zealand is co-ordinated with the plans of the central organisation in London, so there can be neither w’aste of energy nor misdirected effort.
