BUILDING COLLAPSES
INCIDENT IN KING STREET. Workmen employed in the removal of Messrs Collinson and Son’s old building from Broadway to King Street had a narrow escape from serious injury this afternoon when the partially reconstructed building collapsed. The men had been working in the double storeyed structure a short time before, but when the wooden building completely subsided like a pack of cards there was fortunately no one inside.
With a crash heard a considerable distance away the large building lurched* sideways and fell in. the outside portion coming on to the footpath. The brick retaining wall next door was cracked ominously and was bending at an alarming^angle. A large crowd quickly collected at the scene, the incident causing con-sidex-able excitement. •
