LONG-DISTANCE MACHINE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 2. The first five of a large number, of Fairey Firefly fighter aeroplanes will be -delivered next week to the representatives of the Belgian Government for whose Air Force they have been ordered. They are capable of astonishing performances. Captain Staniland, who made a remarkable flying experiment earlier in the week, conducted further successful tests yesterday of a long-distance Fairey-Napier machine which will shortly be handed over to the Air Ministry. This monoplane is built to carry more than 1000 gallons of petrol in its wings, which have a span of 82 feet. It is hoped that within the next few weeks the new machine will attempt to break the world’s long-distance, nonstop flight of 4912 miles. It is stated that the machine is being prepared for a flight of more than 7000 miles. Am MAIL TO CHINA. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 3. The British General Post Office announces that a new air mail service from England to China is available. Correspondence will go by air between London and Irkutsk, and Manchouli and Shanghai. The journey between Irkutsk and Manchouli will be done by train.
