HOLED IN ONE
CRICKETER’S AMUSING FEAT. V hole in one must always be someth'ing of a fluke, but there are flukes and flukes, and I imagine the achievement of G. L. Weir, the New Zealand cricketer, at Outlands Park the other dav is one of the most remarkable ever seen on a golf course, says an English writer. Weir was playing the second round of golf in his life. He started none too“auspiciously, and his strokes at the first hole are variously computed in the neighbourhood of 20. He hit a terrific shot a long way out of bounds, but struck a tree and ricocheted back, bounced on a wall, leapt on to the green, struck the pin firmly, jumped into the' hole—and stayed there. Some of the great tortoises on the Galnpagoc Islands are believed to have been alive in 1492, when Columbus discovered America.
