WOMEN'S WORLD

Miss 11. Chalmers, of Palmerston North, is paying a short visit to Auckland. Mrs Graliafn Smith, of Palmerston North, is staying with relatives in Masterton. Cable advice lias been received that Mr and Mrs *D. W. Low have arrived in England and that both are in good health. Mr and Mrs Harry Anderson, of Palmerston North, who some time ago left for a trin to the Continent and Great Britain, are spending the summer motoring through rural England whose beauty at this time of the year is known throughout the whole world. Mrs Guy Williams won the Masterton Ladies’ Golf Club . championship yesterday. The Women’s Christian Temperance Union yesterday passed a motion of sympathy with Air E. H. Crabb and his family in the death of Airs Crabb, who had been president of the W.C.T.U. for fifteen years. There was a good attendance at the euchre party held in the West End School last evening and keen competition resulted. The prizewinners were Alesdames Zimmerman. Johansen and Gold (consolation) and Messrs Gillion, Ryan and Downing (consolation). An enjoyable time was spent at the Practice Bridge Club’s rooms yesterday. A trophy donated by Airs E. J. Ley.don was won by Airs liergenson, and a hidden number competition was won by Airs Macdonnel. Another enjoyable dance was held at the Hokowhitu School last night when the series of old-time functions was furthered. There was a large attendance. Alusic was supplied by Mr Spencer, extras being played by Miss Sorenson, while Air G. Pattle was AI.C.

AIASSEY COLLEGE BALLETTE.' One of the most enjoyable functions of the season was the ballette held at the Alassey Agricultural College last evening. It was of necessity a smaller function this year, hence the term “ballette,” but it was by no means inferior in standard to last year's function. The decorative scheme was very beautiful. Arching met over the doorways, and everywhere was greenery and colour. The dance hall presented a pretty picture, coloured lights shedding a warm glow over the dainty dresses of the ladies. Alusic supplied by a professional orchestra and the- best of floors added greatly to everyone’s enjoyment. The sitting-out rooms were veritable bowers of green. Airs G. S. Percn, wife of the Principal, Professor Peren, wore pink and green georgette; Airs W. Riddet, rose pink shot taffetas and black velvet cloak; Airs Whitehead, black georgette and oriental bridge coat; Airs Scrivener, black georgette and satin; and Aliss Warburton, black satin and georgette. There were two debutantes, Aliss Phyllis Kneebone and Aliss Nancy Aloore. Aliss Kneebone wore a dainty ankle-length frock of palest green with hand-painted roses, and carried a posy of pink stock and heather. Her bridge coat was of green chenille. Aliss Alooro’s frock was a charming model of white georgette and tulle, and she wore a wrap of white velvet. A posy of freesias and maidenhair fern completed her toilette. Great credit is due to the committee, through whose efforts the evening was a great success. To Air G. G. Taylor, honorary secretary, are congratulations especially due. The committee comprised, besides Air Taylor, Alessrs AI. Cooper, R. Sydenham, T. Evan's, G. Roisterer, R. Sawyer and G. K. Carpenter. The supper arrangements left nothing to be desired, and the long tables presented a gay scene with the decorations of golden wattle and heather. During the evening the students performed their vigorous college haka, led by Mr AlcAleekan, which met with much applause. Another feature was a spot-light dance, when the dancers whirled among the scintillating lights which were operated from the gallery. Altogether it was a very successful ballette and the college building lends itself admirably to a function of this nature.-
