OBITUARY.

MRS E. H. CRABB.Deep regret will be felt by. numerous friends at the somewhat unexpected demise of Mrs Prisca Crabb, a very well-known resident of Palmerston North, wife of Mr Ernest H. Crabb, <n 128 College Street. First as pioneer settler of the district, and then as a resident of Palmerston North for -1 years, the late Mrs Crabb won the respect and affection of a great number of friends by her unremitting servin' to all worthy causes, of which she was an indefatigable advocate. Deceased was born in the Huon (h--trict of Tasmania and came to Kev Zealand in her early twenties. On her marriage to Mr E. H. Crabb. the young couple, with pioneer enthusiasm, took up their home at Waitumi West, and there experienced all tinvicissitudes of the life of the early settler. They farmed successfully both at Rewa and Kimbolton, where they made a great number of friends. In 1910 they took up their residence at Palmerston North, and the late Mrs Crabbe was soon actively identified with many movements for the welfare of the community. She was a leading member of the Women s Christian Temperance Union, became president of the Palmerston North branch ,and held the office of Dominion vice-president. The work for which she is best known was undertaken in connection with this body. Largely through the energy, of the late -firs Crabb tho Willard Home, a splendid example of Christian endeavour, came into existence, and is a monument to her memory. She was always full of practical sympathy for the unfortunate, and brightened many lives by her devoted help, knowing tile value_ol a good home life. The late Mrs Crabb was one of the first women members oi the Palmerston North Hospital Board, a member of the Y.W.C.A. Board, and of the College Street School Committee. She had the distinction ot being Palmerston North’s first woman Justice of the Peace. The late Mrs Crabb is survived by her husband, and the following family Mr Houlton H. Crabb* electrical eng - neer; Miss Helen Crabb, art mistre.-s at the Sydney Presbyterian Girls College; Miss Lilian L. Crabb, mistress of the Kopuku School; Miss Doris Crabb, one of the staff of Massey College, and Mrs Eric Pearce, of Waituna West. They haye the sympathy oi a wide circle of friends in their I*’reavement.

The interment will take place at 2 p.m. to-morrow.
